Filament Barb is a beautiful and active freshwater fish native to rivers and streams of South India. It is known for its golden body, black markings, and the distinctive long filament-like extension on the dorsal fin of adult males, which gives the fish its name. These fish are energetic swimmers and look stunning in larger community aquariums.

Features:

  • Size: 12–15 cm

  • Temperament: Peaceful but very active

  • Tank level: Middle swimmer

  • Lifespan: 5–7 years

  • Diet: Omnivore (flakes, pellets, vegetables, live or frozen foods)

Tank Requirements:

  • Minimum tank size: 100 liters

  • Temperature: 22–27°C

  • pH: 6.5–7.5

  • Best kept in groups of 5 or more

Compatibility:Filament Barbs can be kept with other medium-sized peaceful fish like gouramis, rainbowfish, larger tetras, and barbs in spacious aquariums.

Special Note:Males develop long filamentous dorsal fins and brighter colors as they mature, making them very attractive display fish.
